With a re-elected ALP government the Cheaper Home Batteries program is now being implemented by the Department of Energy and Climate Change. This program offers the potential to save around $4000 on the cost of installing an average 11.5kWh battery. The scheme is scheduled to operate from 1 July 2025.
There are a few key details:
1. minimum battery size is 5kWh
2. must be connected to a solar system (existing or new)
3. available for grid and off grid systems
4. battery must be Virtual Power Plant enabled
5. one rebate per property
6. rebate will be in addition to state-based incentives and loans
7. value of rebates will scale down to 2030
