The Federal Government has announced some changes to the Cheaper Home Batteries Program that has been in operation since 1 July 2025. These changes are designed to keep the scheme operating for the next four years in a more financially sustainable manner. The changes to the scheme will apply to any batteries installed after 1 May 2026.
The key changes include:
– an increase in funding of around $5bn over the next four years
– a quicker reduction in the number of STCs applying to battery systems ie. the rate will reduce every six months rather than once per annum
– a reduction in the number of certificates for batteries greater than 14kWh in capacity; the first 14kWh of storage will still attract the full value; additional modules above will attract a lower rebate
We will now prepare our quotes for any systems likely to be installed after 1 May 2026 to reflect these changes. Please contact us if you have an queries regarding these changes.
You can read the full detail of the changes here.
