The ALP have announced a Cheaper Home Batteries program election commitment this morning, with the potential to save around $4000 on the cost of installing an average 11.5kWh battery. If re-elected on 3 May Labor will introduce the scheme on 1 July 2025.
There are a few key details:
1. minimum battery size is 5kWh
2. must be connected to a solar system (existing or new)
3. available for grid and off grid systems
4. battery must be Virtual Power Plant enabled
5. one rebate per property
6. rebate will be in addition to state-based incentives and loans
7. value of rebates will scale down to 2030

Note: the introduction of this scheme is dependent on the ALP forming government after 3 May.
